The Holy Land Key (Ray Bently with Jennie Gillespie) was just released by Waterbrook Multnomah. The Holy Land Key examines little-known aspects of prophecy, including details revealed in the seven Feasts of the Lord, prophetic patterns discovered in the lunar cycle, glimpses of God’s future kingdom revealed in the stories of well-known figures from Scripture and more.

Heaven is for Real (Sony Pictures), the movie based on the NY Times best selling book, opened in theaters this month. Heaven is for Real brings to the screen the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son’s extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world. The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth … things he couldn’t possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.

SDCWG Annual Writing Awards

It’s time to submit your published writing from 2013 for the Guild’s annual writing awards. Awards will be presented at the Fall Conference in October. Current members, even past winners, are encouraged to submit their best writing published in 2013 for consideration. Please send four (4) copies of your submissions to PO Box 270403, San Diego, California, 92198 (or bring to the Spring Fellowship Event!) The final deadline is May 31, 2014. All entries (except books) may be submitted by sending a PDF formatted copy to info @ sandiegocwg.org.Rules: Material need not be overtly Christian in nature or published by a Christian publisher/magazine but should not be offensive. Maximum of three entries per person. You must be a current member to submit. Past winners are eligible. Board members are ineligible. Entries will not be returned.

Articles: Magazines, online or printed
Poems: (Poems do not need to have been published. But they must have been written in 2013.)

SDCWG Unpublished Manuscript Contest Deadline: May 31, 2014: It’s time to submit your unpublished, completed book manuscripts. Also eligible in this category are self-published (non-royalty or subsidized) books. Authors of self-published books (published in 2013) can choose to enter the unpublished manuscript category or the regular, published book category for the writing awards (see above). To enter the unpublished category, send the first 25 and the last 10 pages of your double-spaced manuscript electronically to info @ sandiegocwg.org with subject line: 2013 Award Submission. Please include a title page and the title/author/page number on the upper right hand corner of each page. The first place winner of this new category will be guaranteed an appointment at the Fall conference with an editor or agent of his or her choice.

Escondidio Critique Group

After many years of hosting the Escondido critique group, which met at 10am on the fourth Wednesday of each month, Jan Flickinger is stepping down as host. A big thanks to Jan for her service to the Guild and other Christian writers over the years.

Fall Conference Registration Now Open (Members Only): Registration is now open for SDCWG members (only) for our 2014 Fall conference. Open registration begins May 1, 2014.

Where: Maranatha Chapel in Rancho Bernardo
What: Our fall writers conference is for all writers–beginners to professionals, and those who are wondering if this is what they are called to do. Our workshops offer instruction in how to get started, self-publishing, fiction, non fiction, marketing, book proposals, screen writing, script writing, journalism, as well as spiritual inspiration —and more.The Friday evening and all day Saturday conference is designed to instruct, inspire and let you meet the writers, editors, and publishers who are committed to helping you write, get published and follow the Lord’s call on your life. We’re here to help you use your gifts.

Reminder: Guild members receive priority for faculty consultation signups. Signup numbers are awarded in the order your paid registration is received. So, as always, we encourage you to join the Guild and to sign up early in order to receive the consultation of your choice.

Special Announcement

President and CEO of the Christian Examiner Lamar Keener will join our conference on Saturday, October 19 to make a special announcement regarding some exciting changes for the Christian Examiner. He is actively looking for writers for the future. He will make his announcement then be on hand to meet with writers and answer questions.

Conference Book Table

Hello Authors!

This year we are looking forward to better book table sales for members at our Fall Conference.

New Location! Instead of the book sale area being in the hall where we have had to close down during general session speakers, we will be open ALL day Saturday in the lobby of the church. This will give conferees more time to browse your books, even while waiting for an faculty consultation appointment. We hope this change will result in more sales for our authors!

Author Sheet: Please download and bring the author sheet so we can track your sales and bring it with you (filled out to save time) when you bring your books. BookSellerForm

Pricing: Please do not use this occasion to offer “specials” as it is hard for our cashiers. Round your book cost to an even number (i.e. $10 instead of 9.99).

Copies: Also, limit yoursef to a dozen copies of your book. If you have several books, display only a few (8 or less) of each title. You can keep extra copies in a box under the table to refurbish as they are sold. Too many books of one title is overwhelming to a buyer. Bring small stands if you wish to display a particular book.

Pick Up: At the end of the day, please be diligent to pick up your remaining books by around 4:30. If there is a problem, or you have to leave early, please arrange for a friend to pick up your books for you.

Left Over Books: If any books are left behind past 5 pm, we will assume you wish to donate them to the library or charity. We are not able to mail the books back to you. Remember, we offer the book sale area as a service to you so you can enjoy the conference. : )

Payment: Checks for all book sales will be mailed out promptly the week after the conference.
