NEW Writers Salon with Kim Bangs

Once a quarter, we will host a Writers Salon with a knowledgeable speaker, and video tape it for those who weren’t able to make it.

Please watch the video (click here) or watch below for a message of hope with Kim Bangs (Regal Publishers) as she shares about writing, publishing, platforms, and social media.

Here are the highlights or key points from her talk:

+ If I had my way I would publish every book that comes across my desk. We have to say no to a lot of good books.

+ Use Your Gifts

+ A published book is not the be all end all–in fact I think it’s the least. If you can use your gift to write a letter to a friend (you remember those–letters? Remember pens? It’s old school but that’s okay).

+ Your gift is to touch one person like Mother Theresa at one time. Write to one person. You’ll touch a world if you write to one.

+ I don’t know what the Lord is going to do with your gift, but you have to be convinced that you have it and if you happen to encounter a publishing contract along the way–godspeed, if not then don’t stop running.

+ The world even more now needs to hear the words of life.

+ A lot of us who are writing tend to be on the introvert side. The challenge is that is requires authors to be publishable and that is a wide social media spear of influence.

+ Nobody wants to hear from corporate. They want it to be a relationship or based on a relationship. We need you to be out front, and if you’re an introvert we know you just want to write, but you need to find your extrovert hat.

+ Focus on your gift and your talent first. Don’t get lost in the pursuit of something, focus on your gift but also asking the Lord how you can be building your spere wider and wider? How can you reach outside of your normal Christian circle?

+ As a church are we going to say social media is bad or use it as a way to reach out to people?

+ I don’t know if the world is going to be safe anywhere anymore. How can you begin to reach and stretch begin to touch people in ways you never thought (outside the four walls of the church).

+ It’s not always about selling your book it’s about you as the author first

+ Branding as an author is incredible important. You start doing things through that brand and then you filter everything through that. Everything connects and that’s now your sphere of influence connects.
